Great to bounce back to winning ways with winners at 12/1 and 8/1, something worth shouting about at last. It puts the blog well in profit and hopefully my first Saturday selections can put us in even more. Some great races for punters to look forward on Saturday but I plan on sitting back and watching the feature at Ascot without any financial involvement, hoping Enable is as good as she's looked so far.

14:40 York - MUNTADAB 16/1

1 Point Each-Way

This race looks a good betting medium here, while George Bowen still looks well handicapped and should take some beating, theres a nice shape for each way angles into the race. The one I like is Muntadab, he has looked well held in the last twice but the return to ground with some give should help him to return to form. His recent below par runs mean he's now back to the same mark off which he finished second beaten a neck by Al Qahwa over course and distance on soft ground. I have backed this at Paddy Power as they are paying 5 places and it is difficult to see Roger Fell's charge not being in the mix come the finish.

17:35 York - JOHN KIRKUP 13/2

0.5 Points Each-Way

I fancy John Kirkup to return to winning ways in the finale at York. He ran a mighty race at this course over 6f when losing out by a neck to Mr Wagyu when trying to give the eventual winner nearly a stone. The return to 5f and forecast rain should help Michael Dods' inmate bounce back with a win. It will be no easy task though having to concede 5lbs to the progressive Validator.

15:05 Newcastle - HORROOB 9/2

1.5 Point Win

Horroob is still unexposed having had just 5 starts and drops significantly in class here. It is worth excusing his poor run in the Britannia at Royal Ascot last time, he ran keenly and was hampered a couple of furlongs out and failed to recover. Dropped to 0-95 company and a return to the all-weather, on which he is 2 from 2, should help him return to winning ways. Although he has only run on a polytrack surface there is nothing to suggest he won't take to tapeta. David Egan's valuable 5lb claim is another positive in a confident bet.

15:00 Ascot - MAKZEEM 8/1

1 Point Each-Way

This is one of those races I love to get stuck into; a proper puzzle and bookies offering a million billion places each way. Makzeem has improved for the drop to 7f on his last two starts and ran a hug race last time out when finishing a clear second to the well handicapped Parfait, who could even go on to be a group class horse. He comes into the race 7lbs well in and will appreciate the softer underfoot conditions. His sire Makfi improved with age so theres no reason to think this gelding has finished improving yet. Getting 6 places each way (a million billion was a slight exaggeration) he rates a solid each way bet.
