Yesterday's selection finished in the places for a small profit, although the favourite, Lucent Dream, proved to be too strong. The winner could be one to look out for in the future, bearing in mind a lot went wrong for him (clipping heels when turning for home) and he still put the race to bed quite comfortably.
18:40 Thirsk - HADLEY 14/1
1 Point win
Although Hadley is far from favoured by the weights in this seller, he looks one of the few runners in the field who comes into this in form, having losing out by only a neck on his most recent start. Placed in all of his last seven starts, his form is comfortably the most consistent in the race and looks a reliable sort who will run his race, which can't be said for many others in this contest. The favourite in this race, Semana Santa, is entitled to be favourite after going close when finishing second in a claimer up at Newcastle on the all-weather in March. However, at 5/4 she is too short to back considering she is yet to win on turf and is on a fair losing run. Annoyingly there are only seven runners, therefore only 2 places being paid each way, so a small win only bet at double figure odds here hoping that the drop to selling company can reward Hadley for his consistency.
16:30 Bath - IMPHAL 11/10
2 Points win
Imphal has well and truly left his two year old form behind him in his first two starts this season. SPs of 50/1, 50/1 and 66/1 in his three maiden starts last year resulted in finishing tenth of thirteen, twenty of fourteen and last of seven respectively. However, following a gelding operation prior to the start of this season he has looked a completely different proposition switched to handicap company and upped in trip. On his first start of the season Imphal finished 2nd behind Newt over course and distance, he then reversed this form winning over course and distance last time following the application of first time cheek pieces. Despite the fact they got racing a fair way out on his last start, he still looked to win with plenty in hand over Plato's Kode (who could give the form a boost in the opener). The cheek pieces are retained here and, considering he is still completely unexposed over this trip, Imphal should prove difficult to beat.
