Friday 4th August 2017
Disappointing to see Diamonds Pour Moi fade in the closing stages but the strong winds made it tough to make the running, those who managed to get cover benefitted. The winner was highlighted in the write up as a strong contender and she was very impressive in the manor of her victory. She looked short of room on the run in but the way she ate up the ground in the closing stages was very impressive, especially given the testing conditions.
I'm confident that Friday could give us the first winner of the month with a few each-way selections at decent prices.
15:00 Goodwood - MASTER THE WORLD 9/1
1 Point Each-Way
Master The World is proven on soft ground most notably when second off this mark of 103 at Newmarket last time out. He finished second by a head in this contest a year ago off a mark 1lb higher than todays and the booking of Ryan Moore shows he is clearly expected to go well today at Goodwood. Would recommend getting the six places at SkyBet if you can.
15:35 Goodwood - PROFITABLE 7/2
2 Points Each-Way
My approach to each race at Goodwood this week has changed day by day due to the changing conditions. The change in ground this week is sure to suit Profitable in this sprint. He's a group 1 winner, who won the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot on soft going last year and has thrived when there has been a bit of cut in the ground. His versatility ground wise is impressive though, as he proved when finishing second behind the freak that is Lady Aurelia in this years Kings Stand on good to firm ground. Its extremely hard to see him not hitting the frame at the very least and I advise a filthy each way bet at 7/2.
19:30 Newmarket - MOUNTAIN RESCUE 10/1
1 Point Each-Way
This looks a competitive handicap on the July course, but Mountain Rescue looks worth an each-way bet. Mountain Rescue finished second behind an unexposed Mark Johnston 3 year old and although he was beaten five lengths, he was four and a half lengths clear of the third that day. He remains unexposed over this trip and looks to be versatile ground-wise so the drying ground shouldn't be an issue.
20:50 Musselburgh - NUALA TAGULA 6/1
1 Point Each-Way
Nuala Tagula gets to race off the same mark as when finishing a close second after missing the break at Newcastle last week, which is a handicap mark just 1lb higher than her most recent win. She is due to go up in the weights in the future so she is officially 2lb well in. The market leader looks to have strong claims although his recent second came in a small field and he has a big weight to carry today, despite also being 2lbs well in. Culloden is a horse clearly in cracking form at present, although he seemed to have had the benefit of a soft lead recently, a comment which also applies to Kodimoor. With the front three in the betting all preferring to lead in their races, they could take each other on and set it up nicely for Nuala Tagula.
