Saturday 19th August 2017
Not the highest quality stuff this Saturday but a quartet of selections down below.
15:15 Ripon - ROBERO 12/1
15:20 Newmarket - REBEL STREAK 5/2
2 Points Win
Rebel Streak is unlucky not to have shed his maiden tag already, he was denied a clear run at Ascot on his penultimate start and next time out lost by just a short head to a 100/1 shot at Goodwood. The form of that run has worked out nicely too, both the sixth and seventh placed runners came out and won their next start. Travelcard looks a nice horse but has a penalty to carry today so hopefully that will leave the door open to Rebel Streak to get his first win on the board.
15:40 Doncaster - BASHIBA 6/1
1 Point Each-Way
Bashiba has been admirably consistent this year and I'm hoping today is the day he is rewarded for that consistency with a win in this race, which he won 12 months ago. Although he has never won off a mark this high, recent efforts suggest its within his capabilities. He gets his ideal conditions good ground and five furlongs at a track he clearly thrives at, with the excellent Lewis Edmunds claiming 3lbs he looks to be a solid each-way pick in this. Take the 4 places each-way with Ladbrokes or Coral.
0.5 Points Each-Way
Robert has been a very progressive animal this year, he won a 20 runner handicap at Ascot in May and has since followed that up with a win at Pontefract and a huge run in the Bunbury Cup, in which he finished 5th from an unfavourable draw. Theres no reason to think he has stopped progressing yet so with a couple of firms paying six places, he looks the each way play in a competitive contest.
17:00 Ripon - TWO FOR TWO 7/1
1 Point Win
Two For Two caught the eye running on late at Haydock last time and looks to have a good chance of getting his head in front today. He is a hold up horse so the booking of Jamie Spencer for today is particularly interesting. The shape of the race looks good for him tactically today, with a strong pace looking almost guaranteed. Mulligatawny and Sands Chorus will both want to lead in the race and a number of others in the line up like to race prominently. Having won off marks as high as 97 in the past, racing off 90 today he should have a good shout.
