Some cracking racing this week at York which kicks off today, the group races look top quality but they will be more of a watching brief to me, although there is a bet I fancy in the big handicap below.
16:15 York - EDGE OF SANITY 20/1
1 Point Each-Way
Edge Of Sanity won this contest three years ago off a mark of 96 and comes into this off a mark 3lbs lower than that. He has only raced three times since that success so he must have had his fair share of problems, but returned to the track after two years off (and a gelding operation) to run a fine race over course and distance finishing third behind Theydon Grey last month. He reopposes his conqueror from that day on 3lb better terms and should come on for the run after a lengthy absence. Obviously, the main concern is the 'Bounce factor' but I'm willing to take a chance as it looks like he's been laid out for this race.
16:00 Bath - TARTE TROPEZIENNE 2/1
3 Points Win
This is a horse I've been waiting for an opportunity to back since its last win. The form of her last two starts could hardly have worked out any better. On her second start she finished third at Lingfield in what looked a pretty decent maiden, this was confirmed when the winner followed up by winning again next time out. The second from that contest has also come out and won comfortably since. Tarte Tropezienne then followed that solid performance up by winning at Thirsk on her next start, the horse who finished second behind her on that occasion, State Sovereignty, has since come out and won in devastating fashion - winning by some 19 lengths at Catterick. Given the strength of her form, her mark of 79 today could prove to be a lenient one.
13:55 York - MOVIESTA 12/1
0.5 Points Each-Way
A very competitive sprint to kick off with at York and I fancy the Irish raider, Moviesta. He comes here off the back of a very creditable run in group company at the Curragh, where he finished fourth beaten only 1 1/2 lengths. Edward Lynam's charge was also a bit unlucky that day, he was bumped a couple of furlongs out after having to switch around a wall of horses. Also, he has a course win to his name which is often important at York. He has his fair share of weight to carry today but Robbie Downey's 3lb claim helps a bit with that. A number of firms are paying 5 places so worth shopping around.
