16:25 Ascot - ALQAMAR 15/8

2 Points Win

Alqamar takes a big drop in class here, last seen in the group 2 Queens Vase were he was far from disgraced despite running too keen in the opening stages of the race, he steps down into a class 3 handicap today. He has been gelded since his run at Royal Ascot which could help him to settle better and the booking of Ryan Moore for todays contest looks like they mean business.

17:05 Musselburgh - ECONOMIC CRISIS 25/1

1 Point Each-Way

It's only nine days since Economic Crisis last ran over the course and distance, finishing seventh of the ten runners. However, he ran much better that day than his finishing position suggests, he travelled nicely into the race but had the door shut on him at a vital stage in the race, when he found racing room it was all too late. He takes a drop in class from class 4 to class 5 today and is 8lb below his highest winning mark which he won off just over a year ago. With more luck in running he looks to have a shout at a big price.

19:35 Musselburgh - THORNTOUN LADY 11/2

1 Point Win

Thorntoun Lady ran a huge race last time at Redcar off the back of a six month break, priced up as a 40/1 shot, she met trouble in running but still stayed on very strongly in the closing stages to grab fourth and finish a never nearer two lengths behind the winner. She did best of those held up off the pace that day in a race where it paid to be handy, she has been left on the same mark and is well handicapped - 15lb lower than her highest winning mark. If she can reproduce her run at Redcar today, she should be in the mix.

15:00 Haydock - HYPERFOCUS 5/1

1.5 Points Each-Way

This is another grade dropper who looks to have a good chance. Coming here off the back of a good run in a nice 3 year old handicap at Newmarket (class 2), he raced keenly that day and has also been gelded since which could help. The second from that Newmarket race, Scorching Heat, has since gone on to win a £47,000 handicap at Goodwood and the third also won next time out. Dropping into class 4 handicap company today, he looks a solid bet each way.
