No write ups for Tuesdays bets as I'm away, good luck if you follow. Doubt there will Be anymore bets for the next couple of days. 13:35 Catterick - HENPECKED 12/1 0.5 Points Each-Way 19:10 Wolverhampton - TASAABOQ 9/2 1 Point Win

Monday 30th October 2017

Another great Friday for the blog last week, with Hussar Ballad drifting to 14/1 before winning cosily for us and Luang Prabang going in later in the evening at odds of 4/1 (15p R4). Heading towards the end of another month of profit, hopefully we can get another winner on the board before it ends. The only bet of the day for Monday comes at Leicester, I won't be able to watch it as I will be on my Rome bound flight by then, but hopefully I land to see a winning bet. And come on Chelsea! 13:55 Leicester - BRONZE ANGEL 12/1 0.5 Points Each-Way This time of year is usually when Bronze Angel thrives and he has shown that on his two most recent starts without getting his head in front. Two starts ago at Newmarket he ran a huge race, having to be snatched up after leaving the stalls, he ran on strongly in the closing stages on ground which was probably a bit on the soft side for him now and had no chance with the runaway winner. Next time out at Kempton, upped in grade, once aga...

16:35 Newbury - CLEAR SPRING 9/1 1 Point Each-Way Clear Sprint ran a disapointing race last time but he never really got involved in the race that day and he has a good record at this track and he could bounce back with a win. He won very well at Salisbury two starts back and the 5lb rise for that looks fair, it leaves him in on a mark of 90, which certainly looks workable considering he won off 97 in a higher grade than this last year. With two course and distance wins to his name from 3 runs, he looks worth a punt here. 18:15 Wolverhampton - HUSSAR BALLAD 8/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Hussar Ballad looks one of the more exposed types in the field at first glance, but this is his first attempt at this trip. He has shaped like this step up in distance would do him a favour, he has been noted staying on late in 1m4f contests and was strong at the finish when winning over that trip here at Wolverhampton in September. His handicap mark looks okay coming into this given he has won ...

Tuesday 24th October 2017

This will be the busiest day for the blog since I started so hopefully it will also be the most profitable, 6 selections from 5 races all at nice each-way prices. Good luck if you follow. 15:00 Yarmouth -  GANGLAND 8/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Laubali and Zizum both come here off the back of very encouraging runs so it is not surprising to see them towards the top of a competitive market, but I fancy one of the more experienced runners here in the shape of Gangland. Richard Fahey's charge ran a race which suggested he is a winner in waiting last time at Newcastle when a close second. He stayed on strongly in the closing stages and made ground from some way back in a race where it paid to be up with the pace. He can make his experience count in a competitive event. 15:30 Yarmouth -  INCREDIBLE DREAM 10/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Jim Crowley is an eye catching booking for Dean Ivory on board Incredible Dream, especially given Crowley was on board the favourite Hajaam when reco...

Sunday 22nd October 2017

Had a cracking day at Ascot yesterday and the write up gave a big priced winner, although no specific bets were advised so it won't count towards this months profit and loss. A decent days racing for a Sunday today, with a jumps card at Kempton and group and listed races over at Leopardstown. But the bet that I've found is on the fibresand at Southwell. 15:05 Southwell - HAMMER GUN 10/1 1 Point Win Hammer Gun is 3-3 at this rather unique track and there seems no reason to desert him after a little break. His last start came at Chelmsford in July when he ran one of his biggest races to date despite finshing only seventh, he was slowly away and was closing all the way to the line that day. He is clearly an even better horse on fibresand and, given that he gone well fresh in the past, he looks too big a double figure odds.

Ascot British Champions Day Preview 13:25   Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup   Order Of St George  will be a short price for this for a second year in a ro w, but he disappointed last year and has charted a pretty similar path so I’m willing to look for something at a bigger price.  Having said that, I expect him to turn the tables with his Royal Ascot conqueror,  Big Orange , given the softening ground conditions. The one I like is one of the young guns,  Stradivarius , he has progressed well throughout this campaign and ran his biggest race  to date when third in the St Le ger. There was some cut in the ground that day but it is likely to be softer tomorrow so the ground remains a question mark but he is a horse still clearly progressing and may give the  favourite  most to think about. At a much bigger price,  Sheikhzayedroad  has to be of interest having won this last year and the softening conditions likely...

17:40 Newcastle - MARAAKIB 12/1 1 Point Each-Way 12/1 paying 4 places at Ladbrokes

Wednesday 18th October 2017

17:05 Lingfield - BORN TO FINISH 7/1 1.5 Points win I'm hoping it will be third time lucky for us with this fella. I have put him up on the blog on both of his last two starts and he's been unlucky both times. I'm aware that backing 'unlucky horses' can be an expensive thing to do but I am sure he has a win in him off this mark. His wide draw doesn't concern me too much and it may even end up being a blessing in disguise, as it should stop Dougie Costello from finding trouble against the rail like he has recently. Lets hope he can repay us for the last twice and that the jockey doesn't find traffic problems AGAIN.

Tuesday 17th October 2017

15:00 Leicester - RENE MATHIS 14/1 1 Point Each-Way This looks an easier contest than the handicap in which Rene Mathis failed to beat a rival home last time, and the heavy ground was probably a valid excuse for that run. That was also his first run for a few months so hopefully he will strip fitter today, in his penultimate start he won at Thirsk off a mark 3lb higher than todays. Custom Cut was a length and a half behind the selection that day and is now 10lb worse off at the weights so I'm surprised to see him shorter in the betting. Having won off marks as high as 101 in the past, running off 97 today he looks worth an each-way punt at decent odds and it was also encouraging to see the yard bang in a couple of winners on Monday. 17:00 Leicester - ZAMPERINI 10/1 1.5 Points Each-Way Zamperini really jumped off the page to me here so I was surprised to see him open at double figure odds. He takes a drop in class today after running a fine race in class 3 company at W...

Monday 16th October 2017

16:40 Yarmouth - CHISWICK BEY 5/1 1 Point Win Chiswick Bey has been dropping down the weights for some time, but it is possible he has his favoured conditions for the first time in a while. The ground would have been too soft for him last time out at Beverley and it is probably fair to say he was a bit out of his depth the time before at York. However, before that York run he showed he still retains ability when finishing third behind Rousayan in a claimer at Beverley, the winner franked that form when winning in a class 4 handicap on his next start. That placed effort at Beverley came over 7 1/2 furlongs on good to firm ground and he was staying on well in the closing stages so the return to better ground and the trip look ideal. 16:55 Musselburgh - FOREVER A LADY 7/1 1 Point Each-Way Forever A Lady bounced back to form last time when finishing third over a mile at this track and a repeat of that effort would certainly put her in the mix here. Keith Dalgleish's mare ...

16:00 Chepstow - OLDGRANGEWOOD 15/2 1 Point Each-Way There's a cracking card at Chepstow today and it really feels like the national hunt season is back, I've found one each-way bet for the action. Oldgrangewood progressed well over fences last season, a campaign that culminated with a third placed finish in a grade 2 novice chase at Ayr. He now returns to Hurdling off a 9lb lower mark and Dan Skelton knows how to ready one so fitness shouldn't be a concern. I have backed at bet365 15/2 paying 4 places.

Saturday 14th October 2017

15:15 York - MR LUPTON 18/1 1 Point Each-Way I'll admit there are probably a few more 'solid' options in this sprint handicap, but at odds of 18/1 I'm happy to chance Mr Lupton. He has mainly been contesting listed and group races this season and tends to run well in big field handicaps, as shown by a good run last time out when finishing in the rearranged Ayr Gold Cup (at Haydock), on ground which was probably too soft for him. He has been dropped 3lb for that run which puts him 7lb better off with the second that day, Stake Acclaim, without taking into account apprentice allowances. That puts him two pound below the mark off which he won at Newmarket, back in May of this year. Sprints aren't always my favourite betting medium but he looks worth an each-way bet today.

Friday 13th October 2017

18:15 Kempton - SAVED MY BACON 14/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Saved My Bacon's last run came off the back of a break and he ran looked like he needed the run. I can see him improving for that and although he finished a fair way behind current favourite Foxy Forever last time, it would be no surprise to me if he gets a lot closer today or even turns the tables. On his final run before that break he won a class 4 handicap a shade cosily under today's jockey off a mark 3lbs lower than todays. Although he clearly thrives at Chelmsford (6 of his 8 wins came there), but he has only run at Kempton twice so that isn't enough to put me off a small each-way bet here.

16:10 Catterick - SELLINGALLTHETIME 7/1 1 Point Each-Way

Monday 9th October 2017

18:10 Musselburgh - THORNTOUN LADY 14/1 1 Point Each-Way Recent runs suggest Thortoun Lady has been crying out for this step up to seven furlongs and I think she can be competitive in a race like this. Two starts ago at Redcar Jim Goldie's mare ran a huge race to finish fourth at 40/1, she finished like a train late on after having an interrupted passage through. Given how strong she was at the finish it was a surprise to see her dropped to 5f next time out at Musselburgh, where again she shaped as though she wanted further. Now a pound lower than her eye-catching Redcar run, with Sean Mooney claiming 7lbs, she looks worth backing each-way. 18:25 Kempton - PRECIOUS ANGEL 6/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Precious Angel ran a race full of promise on her sole start at this venue and I'm hoping she will be able to build on that today. That course and distance run came back in August, she missed the break that day and was stopped in her run two furlongs from home and, although w...

Saturday 7th September 2017

15:35 Ascot - MJJACK 14/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Despite creeping up the weights for finishing second the last twice, Mjjack makes each-way appeal here. Those last two performances came in valuable handicaps over this course and distance and he still looks like he is progressing with his racing, so despite his higher mark here I expect him to remain competitive. The favourite, Mojito, will likely take all the beating as he has looked up to running in group company but taking a price of around 4/1 in an 18 runner handicap isn't my cup of tea. Worth taking the 5 places 1/5 odds wherever you can. 18:45 Wolverhampton - GULLIVER 7/1 1 Point Each-Way Gulliver was in the process of running a very good race last time at Ascot in a better race than this, before hanging badly left in the closing stages. He still managed to finish second and was only headed in the final 75 yards. Connections have gone for a new headgear combination of a tongue tie and cheekpieces which could help to ...

Friday 6th October 2017

14:00 Ascot - SHADY MCCOY 6/1 1 Point Each-Way Shady McCoy has been running with credit in some top handicaps recently and he could take advantage of this drop in grade today. Connections clearly feel this is a good opportunity as they have booked Ryan Moore for the job. The change in the saddle could be the key here too, as last time out (which was over this course and distance) he was given a poor ride and was denied a clear run when the race was starting to develop. Having won this off 2lb higher back in 2015 he must have a solid chance of winning it again. 19:15 Chelmsford - ROUGE NUAGE 18/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Despite the concern that he is likely to face competition for the lead, Rouge Nuage looks worth a small bet here. He finished second to today's rival Gold Hunter over course and distance on his last outing with another of today's competitors, Blue On Blue, behind him. He is clearly in fine form as, despite starting at 20/1 last time, he came into that race...

Wednesday 4th October 2017

15:35 Sailsbury - SIR BILLY WRIGHT 10/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Despite being a pound wrong at the weights Sir Billy Wright looks to have good each-way claims in this 6f sprint and the booking of Jim Crowley certainly catches the eye. He ran respectably in a higher grade than this on Saturday when finishing sixth despite being denied a clear run in the final furlong, he never looked like getting to the leaders but it certainly didn't help his cause. He is certain to handle the heavy ground and on his last run in class 4 company he was only beaten a short head and he won in a higher grade at the beginning of July off a mark just 1lb lower than todays. 16:40 Sailsbury - LESTER KRIS 7/1 1 Point Each-Way Lester Kris ran a cracker on heavy ground last time out at Leicester when finishing second and it looks like he could use his 7lb weight for age allowance to full advantage here. The run at Leicester was impressive given he was six lengths clear of the third and the winner was...

Monday 2nd October 2017

It was great to hit the ground running yesterday, getting October's first winner on the board already. Attention now switches to jumps action for the first time since I started this blog, with a small each-way fancy at Stratford for Monday. 15:30 Stratford - DESERT SENSATION 12/1 0.5 Points Each-Way Despite being beaten 34 lengths on his latest  outing, Desert Sensation looks of real interest in this handicap hurdle. That recent run came off the back of a seven month absence, so it was probably a case of blowing away the cobwebs and he will strip fitter today. Dr Richard Newland's charge comes into this off a mark of 120 and, considering he finished fifth in a grade 3 at Sandown at the start of the year off a mark of 123, that mark certainly looks workable. Also, he has the services of a talented conditional Charlie Hammond, who takes 7lb off his back to help. He will appreciate the cut in the ground and considering the two horses at the top of the market, Ckalco Des Lo...

Sunday 1st October 2017

With this being the first post of the month it is time to look back at how the blog performed for September. I'm chuffed to say that September was the best month yet, with the highest profit and Return On Investment (ROI) since the blog began. As I have said before, I feel it's really important not to force a bet and that patience is what really pays off in the long run. Highlights from this month included 10/1 and 9/1 winners on the same day in Ocean Temptress and Fools & Kings, 6/1 winner Miracle Garden and closing the month out with Rock Warbler (13/2). Month Summary Total Points Staked: 41 Total Points Returned: 75.98 Total Profit/Loss: +34.98 ROI: 85.31% I have now added a new page to the website which will have links to full profit and loss spreadsheets for each month. A link to Septembers spreadsheet is available here 15:05 Chantilly - CAPRI 20/1 0.5 Points Each-Way It looks a cracking renewal of the arc and ...
