Monday 2nd October 2017
It was great to hit the ground running yesterday, getting October's first winner on the board already. Attention now switches to jumps action for the first time since I started this blog, with a small each-way fancy at Stratford for Monday.
15:30 Stratford - DESERT SENSATION 12/1
0.5 Points Each-Way
Despite being beaten 34 lengths on his latest outing, Desert Sensation looks of real interest in this handicap hurdle. That recent run came off the back of a seven month absence, so it was probably a case of blowing away the cobwebs and he will strip fitter today. Dr Richard Newland's charge comes into this off a mark of 120 and, considering he finished fifth in a grade 3 at Sandown at the start of the year off a mark of 123, that mark certainly looks workable. Also, he has the services of a talented conditional Charlie Hammond, who takes 7lb off his back to help. He will appreciate the cut in the ground and considering the two horses at the top of the market, Ckalco Des Loges and Souriyan, are both taking a step in grade, the double figure odds about Desert Sensation look worth taking.
