17:50 Wolverhampton - HUSSAR BALLAD 10/1

0.5 Points Each-Way

Hussar Ballad was a 14/1 winner for this blog a couple of starts back and I can't let him go off at double figure odds again without a small interest. I wrote how his recent runs had suggested the step up to 1m6f would be perfect and he proved me right when scoring over course and distance at the end of October, so it was a surprise to see him dropped back to 1m4f on his next start and he could never get involved in a slowly run affair. There's a chance this race may not be run to suit as there isn't much pace in the race but the extra two furlongs should see him get more competitive than on his last start. Given that he is 1-1 over this trip, he remains unexposed at this distance and may be able to follow up his recent C & D win off just 3lb higher.

19:20 Wolverhampton - BERLUSCA 7/2

1.5 Points Win

Following horses time and time again is a quick way to the poor house, so it is a surprise that both horses put up today I have put up before, but Berlusca's claims here can't be ignored. He finished second over course and distance on both his last two starts, most recently he didn't have the clearest of passages and the winner got first run on him under a typically brilliant Adam Kirby ride. The form of that race looks strong with the third placed horse, who Berlusca beat 2 1/4 lengths, scoring on his next start. The fourth has also come out since and won, so the 2lb rise for finishing second doesn't look harsh at all and he should be up to beating some out of form rivals today.
