17:15 Wolverhampton - BUSH BEAUTY 16/1

0.5 Points Each-Way

Stakes are small for this bet as this is an apprentice race and in these contests it can often be difficult to predict how the race is run. Having said that, Bush Beauty sticks out like a sore thumb at a price of 16/1, I expected her to be half that price. It is easy to put a line through her last run where she clearly didn't handle the Fibresand at Southwell and, prior to that, Eric Alston's mare ran a screamer over course and distance when beaten a neck in a race which has worked out well. The winner of that race, Lucky lodge, has won again since with the fourth and fifth placed horses also scoring subsequently. Paula Muir who rode Bush Beauty in that race is on board once again and the mare races off a mark 1lb lower than that day, so I can't resist an each-way bet at 16/1.

18:45 Wolverhampton - FRUIT SALAD 14/1

0.5 Points Each-Way (SkyBet Paying 4 Places)

Fruit Salad is another who arrives at Dunstall Park off the back of a poor debut run on the Fibresand at Southwell and can be backed at decent odds (with 4 places each-way) to get back on track tonight. Two starts back she finished fourth in a 5f sprint on the tapeta at Newcastle, a race which has produced no less than four subsequent winners. James Bethell's mare only finished a short head behind Liquid on that occasion and re-opposes on better terms this evening, with Josephine Gordon taking over in the saddle, who was on board when Fruit Salad won at Newcastle back in October. She is now just 1lb above that winning mark and I am surprised to see the difference in price with Liquid. There looks to be plenty of pace in the race too which should play into the hands of Fruit Salad who should be coming there late.
