It was great to land the winner of the Royal Hunt Cup on Wednesday and after another couple of days off I think I've found some betting propositions for Saturday's action at Ascot.
16:20 - Diamond Jubilee Stakes
Although he comes out top of the pile on official ratings, Harry Angel has questions to answer here given all four of his defeats have come at this course. That said he made a very pleasing reappearance, a performance which RPR's have on par with his Haydock Sprint Cup success. Australian raider Redkirk Warrior has is a multiple Group 1 winner who has to be respected, he holds Merchant Navy on his last run and is now 12lb better off with that rival. The Tin Man will have been aimed at this for a long time in his attempt to retain his crown but there is one at a bigger price who looks a good each-way angle into the race, step forward City Light. The French trained sprinter was very impressive on all-weather championships day at Lingfield when turning over the short priced Kachy and that rival franked the form when finishing just a neck behind Battaash next time out. Stephane Wattel's colt won a group 3 on his next start in convincing fashion suggesting he may well handle this step up in grade and the surface shouldn't pose a problem as although he has never faced ground this fast, all-weather form usually translates well to the sand-based Ascot track.
City Light 16/1 - 0.5 Points Each-Way
17:00 - Wokingham Stakes
I won't give a runner by runner write up for this race as there are so many in with a shout, instead I'll just focus on the one I like which is Victory Angel. He is very much one of the less exposed runners in the field along with the favourite and caught my eye at Newmarket on his seasonal reappearance. He was held up in the last trio in the early stages of the race whilst Gifted Master strode out in front setting a proper test, no one got to the leader in time but Victory Angel made good headway on his own on the stands side and this big field may well play to his strengths. With the possibility of more improvement to come and many firms offering six places, he looks worth backing each-way as there is a possibility the favourite Dreamfield could be chucked in off a mark of 103 given he holds a July Cup entry.
Victory Angel 14/1 - 1 Point Each-Way
