Northumberland Plate 2019

Image
Unfortunately I haven't had time to have a full look at the weekends cards as it's my birthday today but I found a couple of selections for the Northumberland Plate who I will be chancing each-way, selections and reasoning are below. 15:35 Newcastle Bartholomeu Dias  has stamina to prove here today but recent performances suggest he's capable of staying this trip and he will definitely be a bet for me. He progressed well for Charlie Hills last year culminating in a convincing win when making all at Wolverhampton over 1m4f on his final start of the year. He made a perfectly respectable seasonal reappearance when second to the re-opposing King's Advice , who had race fitness on his side that day. Bartholomeu Dias improved on that when posting a career best effort to win a race here at Newcastle back in April. That handicap has worked out very well since, the third Baghdad won a handicap at Newmarket on his next start before landing the Duke Of Edinburgh at the ...

It's been a quiet time betting-wise with the only selection being Kinglami earlier in the week who got us some place money at 16/1, annoyingly with a smoother passage we might have picked up a few more quid from that bet. 16:25 Newmarket Land Of Legends  is the obvious starting point in this race, the bottom weight has only run three times in his career with the most recent of those being a comfortable success in a Kempton novice event earlier this month. The second placed horse from that race has franked the form since and there is a very good chance that this unexposed Godolphin colt may prove well treated off an opening mark of 91. Having said all that, if you've read this blog before you know I won't be tipping a 13/8 poke in a race of this nature. I will again try and make the most of the each-way market, particularly with a few firms offering extra places again on this race. A record of 1 win in 19 starts isn't spectacular by any stretch of the ima...

After an excellent week of racing at Ascot it is back to the grind of Class 6 handicaps for the blog this Monday. But a winner is a winner no matter what the level of racing so hopefully we can have a profitable start to the week. 16:30 Chepstow Jungle Juice  is likely to prove popular here given she escapes a penalty for what was a pretty convincing win at Salisbury last time out, but this larger field may prove more difficult to dominate from the front and I'm willing to pass on her at odds of around 7/2 at the time of writing. Hey Ho Let's Go  is easily the least exposed in the field and the drop back to 6f looks a sensible move given how hard he pulled over 7f at Leicester last time out. He certainly can't be ruled out but there isn't much juice in his price. It wouldn't be huge shock to see  Fantasy Justifier  involved in the finish here, he's won over course and distance twice before and has been running well recently. But he isn't the most ...

Royal Ascot 2019 - Day 5

Image
It's been a quiet couple of days on the blog, I don't like to put selections and previews up on here for the sake of it so I left the last couple of days alone. Really all I should have posted was two words: 'BACK FRANKIE'. The man has had an incredible couple of days and it's likely all his mounts on the final day will be very popular in the betting ring, however all it takes is a brief scan of Saturday's race card to see that it may be a different jockey dominating. James Doyle has a stellar book of rides including Blue Point who bids to follow up Tuesday's King Stand victory with a win in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes over an extra furlong. Just the one suggestion today along with a brief write up, I think it's fair to say the return of the blog has been a successful one so I will try to get content on here regularly again now. Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Ascot 16:20) The shape of this race has changed rather dramatically since I first glance...

Royal Ascot 2019 - Day 2

Image
The first day of Royal Ascot 2019 started with a bang for followers of this blog with Lord Glitters sticking his neck out to land us a nice 14/1 winner. The miserable weather didn't get in the way of some excellent racing and it looks as though more rain is on the cards (as well as some very good racing again). There's no doubt the race of the day, indeed probably the week, is the Prince Of Wales Stakes at 15:40. Magical has very much picked up where she left off last season and Arc runner up Sea Of Class aims to do the same on her reappearance. However heavy rain on Tuesday which is forecast to continue into Wednesday means at the time of writing the participation of William Haggas' filly looks to be in some doubt. Waldgeist is another who can't be discounted but again conditions may be going against him now, so the race will be one to watch rather than bet on for me. Instead I have been focusing my attention on one of the biggest puzzles of the week, the Roya...

Back & Buzzing For The Royal Action At Ascot

Image
It's been a long while since I've posted anything here on TheStudentPunter.com but after spending some time writing content for other racing websites I have decided to bring the blog back. Recent commitments meant I was unable to put the time in required to achieve the results I want for this website, so I decided to take a break. But now we are back in business and just in time for Royal Ascot! I hope to be posting on here the night before each day of the meeting next week if I can find anything which I deem betting material, but in the meantime I have got my teeth stuck into the curtain raiser, The Queen Anne Stakes, with a race preview below. Queen Anne Stakes (Ascot 14:40, Tuesday) A competitive renewal of this mile Group 1 contest kicks off the meeting, with 18 high class runners  still in the field at the time of writing. Previewing a race this far in advance requires an open mind with regards to conditions and potential race analysis, as it is difficult ...
