An unusually busy Monday for the blog this week, yet to get the ball properly rolling in what has been a quiet month. We've had a few place at nice prices but hopefully we can get a couple on the board before the end of September. 20:00 Kempton Kamikaze Lord looked very unlucky over course and distance last time out and is very unexposed, but it was fairly easy to see how luckless his passage was and the market has certainly taken note, he looks plenty short enough in the betting. Al Moataz is going the right way too and has sound claims, his first two starts came over mile and he was doing his best work at the end last time so it’s surprising to see him at 7f again today. He may be good enough to take this anyway, but there looks value each-way elsewhere. Uncle Jerry  is very consistent on the all-weather and I think he's a better horse on an artificial surface. The BHA clearly disagree with me as his official rating on turf is the same as his AW mark, but 9 of 10...

I have a couple of bets in the big race up at Ayr today and one from Newbury, small stakes again but a couple of nice prices in there. Good luck if you choose to follow. 14:55 Newbury Not my typical betting medium here but I like the Andrew Balding trained filly here in the shape of Shadn . She has been progressing nicely and although she is slightly more exposed than her rivals, I think she may put that extra experience and her fillies allowance to good use here and beat the boys. The daughter of No Nay Never was unlucky not to finish closer when third to Boomer in the Vintage Stakes last time out, she was a little keen in the early stages and had to switch a couple of times at the business end of the race but finished her race well. The winner has since gone close in the May Hill Stakes on her next start, Dark Lady who finished second has won a Group 3 since and the fourth placed filly went very close in a valuable Nursery at Doncaster on her next start. The drop to six f...

14:00 Ayr This is a very competitive heat with four last time out winners in the field as well as some grade droppers who look to have a decent chance. A pair of those recent winners, Sparklealot  and Parys Mountain , have recent form with each other and the former should come out on top in the battle once again. Roger Varian has a good record when heading north with his runners and the progressive Monsieur Noir  will likely prove popular here, but there is a danger he may get into a battle for the lead with the aforementioned Sparklealot . If there is to be a pace burn up, one who is likely to benefit is  Queens Sargent  who arrives here off the back of a career best effort at Thirsk last time out when coming with a well timed late run. The form of that contest has been franked since, Saluti who was a length behind in third won a class 3 handicap at Doncaster off a 2lb higher mark on his next start. With this contest looking like it could be run to suit a...

It's been a quiet time on here of late, I've had a lot going on and haven't had the time to study but I'm back and keen to pick up where we left off with another profitable month. Just two small stakes selections for Tuesday's action with write ups below 15:40 Yarmouth This is very much a low grade affair and you wouldn't catch me backing horses rated 47 very often, but I am recommending a small each-way bet on Percy Toplis   here with William Hill offering 5 places. In all his 48 career starts thus far he is yet to run over a trip as long as this, but his most recent three starts all suggest it may just be what he needs to get his head in front again. Three starts back at Chelmsford he was only beaten half a length over 1m2f, he was doing his best work at the end that day and the winner has advertised the form well since, bolting up off a higher mark on his next start. Christine Dunnett's charge has been noted staying on late in two handicaps here...
