QIPCO British Champions Day 2019

Image
Been quiet on here as I've recently started a new job but I've managed to find the time to get the annual Champions Day preview up in time for Saturday. Good luck if you choose to follow! 13:35 Ascot - QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes This years renewal of the sprint looks wide open and despite the horrendous ground conditions we have a very decent field size with the 17 runners. Given the heavy conditions underfoot and the fact that a few bookmakers are offering four places each-way I'm keen to find something I think can hit the frame at a big price, rather than playing in the win only market. The one that has been well backed all week is One Master  and as I write this she has just gone favourite. She won well in France last time over seven furlongs and that extra stamina will help here today, but now at 9/2 she's not a bet for me. It's unlikely he'll have enough in the locker to win this (by no means impossible) but I'm going to side with...

15:35 Newmarket I was at Goodwood the day Boomer  won the Prestige Stakes and I was very taken with she how she overcame a number on inconveniences to win with some authority on that occasion. I kept the faith with her at Doncaster on her next start where the seemed to take the step up to a mile completely in her stride, but ultimately paid the price for chasing a hot pace up front on a day which seemed to favour those who were held up. The Kingman filly was very much the best of the prominent racers that day, sticking on tenaciously in the closing stages to cling on to second place from the closing cavalry. It would be no surprise to me to see her turn the tables with the winner Powerful Breeze  in todays contest and, although she has a few pounds to find with the market principals, there is still a good chance there is more to come from her. Boomer 16/1  - 0.5 Points Each-Way

Dissapointing to have a blank day to start the month yesterday but it's long term profit we are after and hopefully today's selection can be a step towards that. 19:00 Kempton It doesn't take a genius to point out Kasbaan 's strong claims of completing a hat-trick in this optional claiming handicap, he won with a fair bit in hand last time but this a stronger contest and he has been raised 8lb for that win last time. As is usually the case, I'll be looking for a value each-way play against the favourite and I think I have found that in the shape of George William  for Ed Walker. The Paco Bay gelding appeals as very well handicapped at present and has shaped well enough in his first three starts for this yard to suggest he may be able to capitalise on his falling mark soon. He finished second in the Victoria Cup at Ascot last year off a mark of 95 and went on to be placed in listed company before landing a decent conditions race at Salisbury, which saw his...

15:30 Nottingham Salt Whistle Bay  was absolutely stuffed by 32 lengths last time so he may seem a strange recommendation but he certainly has the back class to land a contest of this nature. This will be the first time Rae Guest's charge has run in a grade this low since winning a handicap on the July course in August 2017. He has been an admirably consistent but due to a rare poor effort last time out he seems to have been given a bit of a chance by the handicapper, he runs off 75 today which is 7lb below his last winning mark. He is a course and distance winner who handles cut in the ground so despite a below par effort last time, he looks to be the each-way play at the current prices. Salt Whistle Bay 15/2   - 1 Point Each-Way 16:00 Nottingham Classic Charm  is 2-3 at Nottingham and was very impressive when bolting up by seven lengths in these conditions on her penultimate start, but she is now 12lb higher now and struggled of his new mark when beaten over...
