14:45 York
This looks a belter of a race and a tricky puzzle to solve, fortunately bookies are paying extra places so we can have a couple of each-way bets in the race in the hope of at least hitting the frame. Top Rank is an obvious starting point, he has looked highly progressive so far but anyone who has read this blog before will know that as a 3/1 favourite in a race of this nature, I will be looking to take him on. He jumps up from a class 4 to class 2 and has gone up 12lb for his most recent win, he did win in some style that time but looks short enough here.
Walhaan was a seriously big eye-catcher at Ascot last time out when running a huge race to finish 3rd at 100/1. He met trouble in running that day and was unlucky not to finish closer to the winner, a winner who has followed up off a 6lb higher mark on his subsequent start. He didn't show much on his first two starts this year and the Ian Williams yard have clearly been bringing him along slowly but they may have managed to time his progression perfectly to land a nice pot here today.
I also feel obliged to have a few quid each-way on Firmament too, he absolutely loves it here at York and although the 5lb rise for his last win looks harsh on the face of it, this race will be run to suit him perfectly and it will be no surprise to see him run a huge race anyway.
Walhaan 16/1 - 1 Point Each-Way
Firmament 14/1 - 0.5 Points Each-Way
