The City's Phantom was well backed when winning in style on his seasonal debut at Yarmouth back in July. Backed from 12/1 into an SP of 13/2 it was mostly hands and heels riding in the closing stages that day for Hollie Doyle, she retains the partnership and looks to have a good each-way chance here. Richard Spencer has made it clear he was look forward to seeing how this son of Free Eagle would develop as a three year old and sounded excited at the prospect of tackling handicaps this season after his maiden win. The majority of firms are paying 4 places so make sure you use on of them if you choose to follow.
I also can’t let Breden go unbacked here at a massive price. His ripe old age of 10 will probably be enough to put most people off but he has outstanding record at the track and is worth a small play each-way with those four places available. He has raced three times at Newbury, including one over this distance, and won all three of them. The most recent of those wins was only last May so he has been showing a high level of form even at these latter stages of his career, that win came off a mark of 98 so off 92 today he has a chance of outrunning his odds. I’m happy to excuse the his run last time out as that was off the back of a 378 day absence and, although there’s a chance he may need this further run to fully dust off the cobwebs, the odds more than account for that.
The City's Phantom 17/2 - 1 Point Each-Way
Breden 66/1 - 0.5 Points Each-Way

Um Kulthum was very well backed at York last time out and subsequently ran an absolute blinder to finish third despite missing the break. That form looks pretty strong with the second (Sacred) going very close in group 2 company on her next start, the fifth (Scarlet Bear, 4 lengths behind the selection) who reopposes today finished third in a group 3 at Salisbury next time. Richard Fahey’s filly is 4lb clear of her nearest rival here on official ratings and 2lb clear on RPR’s as well as being one of the least exposed runners in this field. This looks a weaker race than the one she contested last time out and she should go very well.
Um Kulthum 15/8 - 2 Points Win

This is the feature race of the day and is typically tricky. Wise Counsel is one that looks worth a few quid for me. He has some pretty smart 2yo form in the book, having finished a length behind Hello Youmzain and San Donato. Placed in listed company on seasonal debut and then a prep at Ascot I reckon there’s still scope for him off this mark of 98, given he won over seven furlongs here last season there’s no worries about the track and the extra stamina could come in handy in what is likely to be a strongly run affair. With firms paying 7 places make sure you shop around for the best terms.
Wise Counsel 10/1 - 1 Point Each-Way

Lorton has been holding her own in higher grades than this on the turf and now returned to a course and distance she has won over before, she looks set to make a bold bid to get her head back in front. Julie Camacho's daughter of Sepoy won a class 3 handicap over course and distance off a mark of 80 back in March, so dropped into class 4 company off a mark of 79 she is very appealing. There’s plenty of unexposed three year olds in here so I’m happy to play this each-way at around 9/2.
Lorton 9/2 - 1 Point Each-Way
