James Bethell has his string in excellent form at present and Idoapologise looks to have sound claims of enhancing that recent form here. Still relatively unexposed in the context of this field, if he improves on his run over the extended mile here back in June there’s a good chance that will see him finish with his head in front today. He was fairly well fancied in the market that day, sent off the 7/2 second favourite, but couldn’t match the 11/1 winner La Trinidad in the closing stages. There is certainly no shame in finishing second to that winner now with the benefit of hindsight, he won by 5 lengths under a 6lb penalty on his next start and solid performances since mean he is now 22lb higher in the handicap than that Beverley win. The selection on the other hand, is only 3lb higher than that day.

James Bethell’s charge had shown promise on his seasonal debut up at Newcastle when running much better than his finishing position suggests in a race which wasn’t run to suit. The drop back in trip here may help him see his race out better as he took a bit of a grip in the early stages last time out. With a 5lb weight for age allowance here he could be up to winning this for a trainer on fire at the moment

This is a pretty poor race on paper and although I’ll be keeping stakes low I’d be pretty sure that if William Alexander can replicate his performance last time out he should have a good chance of following up. He ran on well late in the day to pick off the re-opposing Stone Mason and ultimately won going away. Les Eyre’s charge is now significantly better off at the weights with that rival and the pair finished nicely clear of the remainder that day. There is very little recent winning form on offer here and although it may sound very simple to side with the last time out winner it also looks wise. One danger may be Zeshov who hinted he may be returning to form with an eye-catching run last time and is starting to look well treated, but he has been done no favours whatsoever by the draw here.

William Alexander 9/2 - 1 Point Win
