Royal Ascot 2021 - Day 4

Image
2:30 - Albany Stakes (Group 2) 6f I was pretty keen on the chances of EVE LODGE  earlier in the week but she was a non-runner and connections have decided this 6f contest may suit her better as the ground earlier in the week was a bit on the quick side. Forecast rain should suit, as mentioned previously her sire has been doing well recently, particularly on soft ground. She won herself on soft ground at Lingfield and although she has a bit to find on figures she may handle the conditions better than a lot of those in here. The draw may not be ideal but I think the odds compensate sufficiently. EVE LODGE 16/1 4:20 - Coronation Stakes (Group 1) I would be a lot stronger on PRIMO BACIO  if this was on good ground (writing this assuming it will have softened up by race time), but there is a chance she will handle some give as her sire was a soft ground winner. Ed Walker’s filly absolutely sluiced up at York last month, she raced keenly early on and managed to quicken up off a fair...

Royal Ascot 2021 - Day 3

Another profitable day yesterday with a few places but no winners. Selections for day three come with a word of caution though, there is a deluge forecast which could mean the surface changes from rattling quick to testing conditions in a matter of hours. I’ve based my research on ground on the softer side of good but we all know weather forecasts are far from cast in stone so I’d recommend treading carefully here. I have only covered two races as it stands but may update this page at some point tomorrow with further selections dependent on weather changes and morning odds. 2:30 - Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) 5f Adam Kirby hasn’t ridden a winner since the derby but I think he has a good chance in the opener teaming up with Clive Cox, who is normally a good man to follow over sprint trips here. INSTINCTIVE MOVE   finished off his race nicely at Bath on debut and was clearly well thought of being sent off as a 9/4 shot. The stiff 5f here at Ascot should suit nicely based on that run and ...

Royal Ascot 2021 - Day 2

Fresh from a 20/1 winner on day one hopefully everyone made a few quid yesterday. A lot of big prices amongst today’s selections so hopefully we can have another profitable day in Berkshire. 2:30 - Queen Mary (Group 2) 5f I normally wouldn’t touch a race like this with a barge pole but there is one in here I’m going to have a small interest in in the form of  EVE LODGE . First season sire Ardad has got off to a decent start and was well represented on day one of the royal meeting when Vintage Clarets ran a blinder to finish third in the Coventry. Charlie Fellowes’ filly caught the eye on debut over course and distance and duly broke her maiden tag, albeit in a weak contest, at Lingfield last time out. Jamie Spencer retains the ride which can always go down as a positive at Ascot, she looks overpriced and could be worth a few pennies each-way with extra places on offer. EVE LODGE 25/1 3:05 - Queen’s Vase (Group 2) 1m6f A lot of these in here look like they could improve for a step u...

Royal Ascot 2021 - Day 1

Back again! I’ve decided to only post previews for the big festivals on here now, I suppose they don’t get much bigger than the royal meeting in June. A busy week at Ascot ahead so I’ve left out the last two races on day one where I didn’t have a big opinion, but there’s still a good deal to get stuck into and I will try and post a preview for at least a couple of races every day this week. 14:30 - Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) 1m Palace Pier  is a very short price for the curtain raiser here but deservedly so. He won at the royal meeting last year in impressive fashion and although he was disappointing over course and distance later in the season (the only defeat of his career), he has bounced straight back to winning ways on both starts this year. He’s 5lb clear of the field on official ratings and should really be winning this if running up to form. Therefore in terms of a bet in the opener I’ll be looking to play each-way and in the betting w/o favourite markets. LORD GLITTERS ...
